Silence is golden

Sometimes when I get really comfortable around people, I get silent. Sounds counter intuitive, I know. So much can be said in a pregnant pause than a million words combined. At this point it means we’ve run through all the usual subjects: how your day went, how my day went, our hopes/dreams/fears…I’m advocating that it’s okay to sometimes just BE. Let the silence wash over — it’s a beautiful thing.
However, most people I’ve met don’t see eye to eye with me on this subject. They’re shifting in their seats during lulls in conversations and silence becomes the enemy that must be vanquished. They’re always “on”…always performing, even if its an audience of one. I have a hard time relaxing around these types because I don’t think they’re ever relaxed. I recognize that it’s in our human nature to communicate because deep down everyone just wants to be understood. Usually, I find that the people who can be comfortable with me in silence, are often the ones that are truly comfortable with themselves. For the few I’ve met that agree with me, thanks for sharing all the quiet wonderful moments saying absolutely nothing.
i’ve only known to be okay with silence with g.
